Description
Select one multi-award-winning cottage on a hill livestock farm and two close-by must-see cities: historic Edinburgh and vibrant Glasgow. Blend in West Lothian's reputation as the happiest place in Scotland and your holiday recipe looks tempting. Add in easy access to a rich heritage of castles, abbeys, stately homes and an amazing diversity of activities from golfing, fishing, climbing all within an hour's drive and you'll discover an area you'll want to return to again and again. This is an all-weather destination. 1 of 3 cottages here.
Maybe explore ruined Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots? Or balance a day spent in the many wonderful free museums with indulging in some bargain retail therapy in Livingston’s nearby designer outlets? Then perhaps wind down the day with a stroll round the farm before relaxing with a dram enjoying the glow of the multi-fuel stove. Or drive the half-hour into Edinburgh to take in a show or an atmospheric ghost-walk round the old city?
Radiate East, West, South and North from here for an amazing diversity of stunning Scottish landscapes, from the hills and glens of Loch Lomond & the Trossachs to the wide sandy beaches of East Lothian, the rolling hills of the Borders and fishing villages of Fife. Relax on a boat trip, or enjoy free entertainment watching farm activities or piecing together a jigsaw in Steading Cottage whilst planning your next day's adventure.
Click onto our www.crosswoodhill.co.uk website link to open the door to all 4 of our cottages. Select Steading Cottage from the menu and the camera icon will lead you to 30 interior photos and lots of descriptive text. Ideal for 2, 4 or 6 people. But first a taster!
From the outside Steading Cottage looks deceptively small, but inside it opens up like a tardis providing spacious accommodation. A focal point at the far end of the living area is the multi-fuel stove for those who love the ambience of a real fire in addition to the oil-fired central heating.
Please note that all heating fuel and electricity are charged as extras at the end of your stay, at cost, depending on usage.
Upstairs is a small gallery and spacious dormer / attic family room with one double, 2 single beds and an adjacent loo. Kids love the floor space.
Downstairs the double bedroom (with ensuite power shower and toilet) offers privacy from the upper room. Adjacent is a single bedroom. The attractive bathroom has hand-painted tiles, a large bath, toilet and power shower ideal for wheelchair users.
The roomy porch / utility room housing the washing machine and tumble drier is ideal for guests wanting a pet-free outing.
Guests are wowed by the lovely ambience, the fantastic array of equipment, the variety of books, games and toys for all ages, free wi-fi, mass of tourist information and the extra-mile thoughtfulness. Try it!
Prices based on up to 6 people. If 7, £50 extra is payable. Pet fee: £20 per dog per week

The beautiful capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh is situated on the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. It began as a hill fort and has a rich architectural history, boasting over 4500 historic buildings, and is now designated a World Heritage Site.
At the top of the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle dominates the landscape, and is one of Scotland’s most famous tourist attractions. The castle has sheltered many of the country’s monarchs, and is now the home of the Scottish Crown Jewels.
This cosmopolitan city offers a wealth of activities and entertainment, from museums, libraries and art galleries, to restaurants, pubs and clubs. It is home to the Royal Lyceum Theatre, the King's Theatre, Edinburgh Festival Theatre and Edinburgh Playhouse. There are a wide range of shops from designer names to high street brands, as well as several tranquil parks and gardens where one can escape from the buzz of city life.
There are many tours operating in the city, from hop-on hop-off open-top bus rides to ghost walks. Coaches can also be taken to visit attractions further afield in Scotland, including Loch Ness and the Highlands, Loch Lomond, St Andrews and the Scottish Borders.
Every August Edinburgh hosts the biggest annual international arts festival in the world. This combines the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.
